Saint Rémy is in western Provence and is famous for its connections with Van Gogh who painted some of his most beautiful works in this area. The property is situated on the edge of Saint Rémy and it is a pleasant walk 1.5k walk into town. St Rémy has a great selection of restaurants and cafés including the Café des Arts where the works of local painters are exhibited. The very appealing Provençal market of local produce takes place on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. There is much to visit in this beautiful region: the Roman remains at Glanum, the extraordinary rocky landscape around the village of Les Baux, bullfights in Arles and Nîmes. The Camargue national park with its horses and flamingoes is half an hour’s drive, and the Mediterranean is about 45 minutes. There are colourful street markets in the local villages and towns, and wine tasting and olive oil tasting is widely available. Marseille airport is about 30 minutes, and so is the TGV railway station in Avignon. It is also possible to fly to Nîmes, about 45 minutes.
