We strongly advise that you take out your holiday insurance immediately after booking your holiday. That way you should be covered in the unfortunate event of having to cancel your holiday if one of the party becomes ill beforehand.

In the light of the disruption of flights caused  by the volcanic ash cloud, it is worth considering that some travel insurance policies (including that of the Post Office) now cover consequential losses incurred on accommodation bookings due to scheduled airline failure. Many travel insurance policies do not – it is worth checking.

Companies sympathetic to pre-existing medical conditions or clients over 65.

The Age UK group ( Help the Aged merged with Age Concern ) offers travel insurance with good benefits for people over 50.
